Hi Tero,

Congratulation on your success. I was planing to start CPV, now your post has encouraged me to start CPV. It would be really appreciated if you share what kind of tools/software you use to research the market and what do you use for tracking.

Thanks for sharing your success with us.

I worked pretty hard at CPV the first month with limited success, got frustrated, went away for about 6 weeks doing things on Facebook, found I could build profitable Facebook campaigns but after about 3 days they would become unprofitable so got frustrated with that, but I learned things doing it. I then came back to CPV full time (like 10-12 hours/day) and built up to this.

I'd like to say this enabled me to quit my day job or something but the truth is I already quit my day job 1.5 years ago. At least this allows me to have a positive cash flow for a change. My goal is not really to become the biggest affiliate marketer that I can be, my heart is in something else. I'm doing this to enable me to do that, and I really just want to get to $1000/day and then minimize the time I spend on affiliate marketing as much as possible while maintaining the same level of profitability.

I figured since I got to this level I would share a few tips, insights, and concerns:

Tips:

1. Stick with it. This did not come easy to me, and I still get frustrated regularly. I mean serious frustrated, feeling that I've wasted days at a time on things that did not work out, and that I have limited control and understanding over how the CPV networks work. You have to get through these lows and be persistent. Everyone says the same thing, but it is so hard. I am an atheist but I seriously think religion would be beneficial here You just gotta find a way to do it somehow.

2. Track and test everything, be analytical. If you're not going to to do this, just get out of the CPV game now. There is a lot of room in this world for artistic types, I think including CPV, but unless you can also act analytically, it will be impossible to succeed.

3. Seek out any way to get out of the ordinary. I am promoting almost everything that can be found on the major networks in the most obvious ways, and I am sure many of you are as well. You can make money this way, but to truly make real money you have to get out of it. I will share this story to illustrate this even though I'm sure it will make you think I am completely cuckoo. Even though I truly believe you have to think outside of the box, it is hard to force yourself to do it. I love to run, and I frequently drive to a nearby national wildlife refuge to run. I find that while driving back from a run, I do some of my best thinking. Something about running just prepares the perfect mental state for me, and while driving back I will be exposed to a lot of visual sights which will start a thinking process. For example I will pass a sign for "In n' Out" (yeah I live in California the home of re-invention ) and that will toggle a thought process. One day I was driving back from a run, and I noticed an old fashioned street light. I started to think, how can a street lamp help me with campaign X (which I was desperately trying to grow). I couldn't figure it out. I drove some more and went past a gas-fired street lamp (we actually have some of those where I live), and I thought how could a gas fired street lamp help me generate ideas for my campaign, and I still couldn't figure it out. I drove some more and came past a series of 3 identical street lamps in a line. I then thought that 3 street lamps in a line is a sort of "guide". The concept of "guide" was very relevant to my campaign, and I rapidly thought of a bunch of other concepts. I came home and while still in my stinky running clothes rapidly searched for URLs around these concepts and added them. Many of these failed, but one of these URLs is reliably generating $100-$150/day for this campaign and is the most profitable URL I have. This is what I mean by get outside the ordinary, there is so much money in a converting URL that no one else is competing for, and I am pretty sure no one else will ever figure out this URL because the thought process that led me to it is just so bizarre

Insight: I said a couple times in this forum that I am an engineer, not a marketer. I think a lot of this comes easier for many of you than it does for me. I've worked in so many companies where I was considered by all to be an awesome engineer and architect, but many of these companies failed because they couldn't sell our product even though engineering delivered the product requested by marketing in a very excellent manner. Marketing has always been a mystery to me, but as an engineer, affiliate marketing has opened my eyes. The reason is it gives me a rapid feedback loop. I am good at learning, and if I try something and get feedback in 24-48 hours that it is not working, I learn. I love this experience because I am finally making a greater sense of marketing which I feel will benefit me in other entrepreneurial ventures.

Concern: I really feel that the types of affiliate offers accepting CPV traffic are very limited (Acai + Colon Cleanse + Car Insurance anyone?), and for the most part we are just competing against each other on too few offers. Right now I'm spending serious time on the Month 3 technique to try to break out of this, and also trying developing some one-off web applications driven by CPV traffic, but I'm not sure about the success of either. I really feel we need to figure out how to expand this if it's going to be a long-term income generating strategy for a lot of people, but still not sure how. I think this is a great forum that Will provided, and hope we can figure it out together.

Cheers to more profits,

Tero

Anybody notice that original post was made 3 years ago? I guess not..

I was pulling 3-5k a day in 2000-2006 it's all different ball game now..

Over crowded and over saturated. IMHO.
