Question Quick questions about targeting and offers

So far I've tried direct linking to email submits with some success on their brand site. I can either break even or completely bomb on any given day doing this. Make a couple bucks every other day. Tried switching them up too. Currently running them at survey sites.

I tried adding 500 to 1,500 urls scraped from Google via keyword. Nothing.

I've tried different combinations of landing pages and direct linking on some other offers. Mostly work from home, payday loan and car insurance without any success at all.

I've messed around with Quantcast and Google Ad planner, trying to get some kind of feel for demographics I need to target.

At this point I'm thinking I have a combination of the wrong targets with the wrong offers and the wrong landing pages. Not a good combo lol. Not really sure though.

Any suggestions on what I should do from here? I'm still running test campaigns on both Mediatraffic and DirectCPV. Every other day I set up about 10 more to test. Driving between 500 and 1,000 views per day.

I'm guessing there are targets and landing page combos out there that would actually get conversions for a decent payday loan offer or something? I've never had a PPV conversion above $3. I'm pretty sure I'm missing a major point or 654 somewhere.

Designed a nifty offer/lander rotator for prosper. Dumped 2k+ "targeted" URLs into a spreadsheet and I'm going through them one at a time. Each URL should have users there with one specific purpose and I'll be testing 3 to 5 landers that will hopefully get their attention.

I'm thinking my effort level for "launching" campaigns isn't what it should be. I'll try it again with a little more thought.

It sounds to me like you are on the right track. Keep at it!

You may already be doing this, but alexa.com has been extremely useful to me when researching keywords or URLs. Basically, you can see where traffic to the offer or advertiser's webpage is being referred from and from that, demographics about the type of person who visits the offer, etc. And from there, you can develop a more optimized and better quality list of keywords. As you said also, the problem may lie with the landing page (either the text or design). You should absolutely split test different landing pages against each other, but a good rule to abide when split testing is to only vary one of those (either text or design) at a time. Your data will become a bit obscured if you have different landing page designs with a variety of different text at the same time.

I hope that helped...please let me know if you have more questions or need clarification.

Thanks for the tips. I was using Alexa but apparently not very well. I'll launch this next try in an hour or two. Just trying to figure out how to get the city in the lander without having to hit a MySQL database every page load. My lander design skillz are terrible as well lol.

We'll give it another shot.

You will be successful ;-) You are doing what most people DON'T do and that is test test test and build more campaigns. The only way to find a winning a campaign is to build more. With each campaign I bet you are learning and figuring out what works and doesn't for you. This is the road to success.

Yeah definitely. It's like my brain is slowly re-arranging itself. I'll get it if it takes me two years lol. I'm a full time freelance programmer with as much time as I need. I'm not great at patience but time is something I definitely have.

Every day I look back and realize how ill-conceived my previous efforts are. Must mean I'm moving forward and will get somewhere eventually.

I'll keep posting on my progress. So far I hand picked about 300 URLs and got absolutely nothing for traffic. Added another 350 and got 8 views today with 1 click through the lander. Thinking it's just taking MT/DCPV some time to get the campaigns going.

Caffeine locked and loaded. One email submit campaign barely under profitable but running PPC at it to kick things up past positive ROI.

For tonight, I bought a few landers to see if I could actually get a pulse as far as click throughs to the offer. I think I'm going to rotate 2 for payday loans with similar text. If I find a clear winner I have a bunch of goofy images...bums, monopoly money, etc...to rotate through and then I'll try text.

Not sure that I'll actually get conversions but getting anything above a 1% CTR to the offer would be a major moral victory for me lol

Your problem might be that you are just "messing" around with adplanner and quantcast when you should be leveraging them heavily to get the right data out of them.

PM if you need some one on one help... we can skype if you like.
