Default Looking for a broad overview. Questions inside.

Hey group,

First, I was glad to find a free community to get my feet wet. I've been reading up on PPV/CPA's for two days now and I think I have the broad understanding hammered out.

Second, I'm an extremely computer literate right-brained person. This happens to be a very good combination for me. I've been doing free-lance PC/AntiAdware work for a while, but the other side of the fence seems much more profitable.

I've been breezing through articles on blogs and this forum and I want to see if understand things right.

The concept with CPV/CPA's is this (confirm or deny for me please):

You sign up with CPV's to buy 'web traffic' based on 'keywords' you are looking for.

Then you sign up with CPA's that pay when an add is "converted".

The money maker here, is connecting the traffic to the company that is looking for leads?

Is this correct?

What do you have to achieve to get paid?
An email address? User to sign up on the website? User to buy a product?

What is a "conversion"?
A user who clicks on your Ad and then submits information/purchases from the company that hired the PPV?

Essentially here is how it works.. First you sign up with CPA networks. They will supply you with offers that you can promote and you will get paid every time the user completes an action. That action can vary from offer to offer. Sometimes an action will be an email, a signup, or purchase of something. Whenever that action is completed that is considered a "conversion." You then sign up with a PPV network. There you can bid on keywords or URLs. Your ad will then be shown to users who are visiting that URL or a site with the keywords you bid on. Every time your ad is shown you will be charged based on your current bid on the PPV network. The money maker IS pairing the traffic with the offer that needs leads, but it isn't always as simple as just slapping an offer in front of random traffic. Also.... Welcome to the community. It can be a lot of information at first but once you adjust PPV marketing is really a lot of fun.

Turtle, thanks for the overview. I was about to attempt to delete this post as I answered most of my own questions by continuing to read. Imagine that. Had to piece it together and get past the acronyms but now I think I have a solid understanding of the overview. You confirmed it.

Thanks for the welcome.

Honestly, I don't know why I haven't tried internet marketing before. I'd be great at it. I have html/java experience, extensive photoshop skills and a good friend owns a hosting company. Seems like I have the basic tools going.

This is always the hardest part... It's easy to read and difficult to take action... Sounds like you are already on your way... Many marketers don't even know how to work with websites when they start so you will definitely have a good platform to build from.

Yeah, I believe I have the toolkit.

Is it possible to get some proof of CPA's without dumping $'s into a CPV network. I'd like to see things go positive before I start playing with my stockexchange fund on this.

I'm thinking just sign up with a CPA group and throwing up a blog... attempt to generate my own traffic before I pay for it.

I don't see why not, right?

You can certainly do that, the reason why I wouldn't is simply time. It takes time to SEO sites and wait for traffic, but it certainly can be done. With CPV, you will know in a matter of minutes sometimes if you have a winner or loser.

just remember.... pushing CPA offers... or affiliate.... or whatever you might try..
at the end of the day... is a lot more than web site building...
I build sites.... but IM is way more than that...

with IM.... at the end of the day... mostly deals with sales and marketing....

knowing websites is a big help..

but if you are expecting to make several web sites...
put some banners on them
and wait for the money to roll in...
its not going to happen.....
its a lot more complicated than that..
getting traffic takes time...

now...on the other hand....
CPV provides instant traffic but at a cost....
and if your campaign is off.... you lose money quick.

There is nothing like CPV to drain your account quick...
