Default Landing Page To Build List

So I get that for long term success the money is in the list and when running campaigns you want to collect emails/names for future marketing.

If you are promoting CPA offers, say for Insurance or Debt, and on your landing page you are first asking for an email for your list before then sending them on to the offer, what's the set up?

For example on my fitness blog I collect emails by offering up a free fitness eBook - they enter the info, they go to their email to confirm and then they get the link to download the eBook.

When you're pushing offers via CPV and trying to get them to fill out a form and submit, don't they get annoyed that they've already submitted their email to you for your list, only to get hit with another page (the offer) asking for more info? Is double opt in used here or just single to push them directly from landing page to offer?

I would not build a list this way, in this case i would send them just from the lander to the offer without capturing emails. If you want to capture emails than I would think out of the box as Lucas showed us with the Fan Club Method.

Ok so then I guess I'm just confused about the purpose of the landing page. What is its purpose?

If the user clicks through and goes to my landing page, which is designed in a way to mimic the final landing page, but doesn't collect his info (email or zip, whatever), what is the benefit?

I guess I'm just confused as to why the user is going to keep clicking (popunder>landing page>offer). Can anyone help clear this up for me? Thanks guys.

Because many affiliates have already been direct linking so the user is used to seeing the page and just closes it. Another reason is with a landing page you can list all of the benefits and why they NEED to fill out the offer. It gets them all excited instead of just slamming them with the direct link to sign up or w/e it wants you to do.

The offer landing page is usually pretty general in terms of the audience it is designed for. But the most effective campaigns are extremely targeted to a particular user. So your landing page should be designed and have ad copy that reflects a specific appeal that is unique to your targeted demographic. It works as a bridge for your audience to see why they would want/need the offer. An obvious example would be ringtones. Instead of targeting general ringtone URL's or keywords, focus on sites with hardcore fans of a specific artist and make your landing page look like it was designed specifically for that artist.

I haven't tried much opt-in collection yet, but I think it would work best if you are focused on just getting the lead and then as a secondary conversion pushing an offer after the opt-in. Focus on a good reason to opt-in... which means good content. No one wants to sign-up to a list to be advertised to.

Thank you guys. Through either my own stupidity or just missing it explained somewhere I wasn't grasping it; I get it now thanks to both your explanations. I was always hung up on why landers were converting better and just couldn't wrap my head around it so thank you.
