Question How exactly are CPV ads displayed?

Hi guys, as you can tell from the name, I'm the nooble. I have zero experience with PPV (excluding trainings and literature).

Anyway, so I know that most PPV/CPV ads are displayed to users who "opt-in" to receiving ads by usually downloading free media, i.e. games, wallpapers, screensavers, etc.

It sounds to me like the free media installs an extra piece of software that will display the ads in a pop-up manner. What I'm curious to know is how these ads, if they truly are pop-ups, get displayed in our world of pop-up blockers and such? Does the software by-pass the blockers?

I appreciate any insights!

Also, I would like to know what other ways people install the CPV ad-viewing software besides those listed in my post (i.e. via free games, free wallpapers, free screensavers)?

For instance, I've read that Media Traffic targets the middle-aged and older demographic, but I just can't imagine these older folks accepting/downloading anything of the kind. Can anyone offer any insights here as well?

Yes, that's how it works.

The installed software can be in the form of games or screensavers or video entertainment -- and the pop ups are triggered based on websites visited or viewing habits of the user.

Because it is software related (and not browser related) the pop ups are not blocked because when the software is installed the user consents to this install and that allows the computer to run the program.

To find out demographics, you can use Home | Quantcast and run the cpv network's url in quantcast.

For example, with media traffic the software is installed from vombasavers. So you can analyze VombaSavers inside quantcast and get an idea of the demographics.
