Default I'm excited, yet frustrated beyond belief with tracking! Please help!

Phew...ok let me catch my breath and put the gun down from my head just for a moment as I'm ready to blow my brains out!

I'm a pretty experienced marketer but if there's one thing that makes me contemplate suicide is technical crap. Ok this problem has somewhat been covered in another post here...but it still has not helped.

Is there any reason why the coach hasn't created videos for exactly what to do AFTER we launch a campaign..as in how to merge the data for campaigns etc?

Anyway, here's my problem(s)...I would be over the moon if someone explained it step by step.

I have a 2 CPA UK email offers on rotation from CPA empire. When adding the affiliate links I just copied and pasted the "contextual link" I was shown for each...and they look like this:

http://login.tracking101.com/sw/68201/CDXXXXX/

I don't get how all the tracking info gets attached to the link...but I read several times here that with this kind of an affiliate link from networks that use the DirectTrack or whatever system...the PPV tracker appends all the info.

So I'm thinking....cool. However...here's what I have, and after reading some other posts I'm completely confused and banging my head.

Right - When I check my CPA empire stats...I can see the traffic has been equally divided (so rotation is working fine)...and one of the offers has got leads...the other has nothing.

But where is any info on sub id info...as in nothing in the stats tells me where (which URL) or traffic source the leads came from.

Hang on...that ain't all.

I then go to my tracker...and I can see the URLS that have got traffic...but in the columns on the right..as in cost, ROI, earnings and whatever else...there's nothing??

Ok so now I'm telling myself... obviously it shows nothing as I must first have to upload the "traffic data" which in my case is Media Traffic...and I should also somehow have to upload the stats from the CPA Empire network?

Man o man I'm confused! Here are my questions:

1. First off, I read on one post by the coach that we "must" use the traffic source "me" for Media Traffic?? Why? I just followed his A-Z walkthrough video where he used "mt" for the source for Media Traffic. I did what was shown...and now I stumble on something else.

I don't get why that is...and if so it would have been awesome if it were shown that way in the example. And more importantly what do I do now?? Do I have to change the URL info to show "me" instead of "mt"?? I don't see what difference it makes...as long as I know what the code means??

2. Anyway, I downloaded the csv from MT like it says and then uploaded it to my tracking site...it showed some lines of God knows what...and then well...I don't even know what it did as the stats still show no cost against each URL/Keyword (when I choose keyword stats on the tracker)...I'm so bloody confused...I'm not even sure what I'm asking LOL!!

3. Where does it talk about how to get the data from e.g. CPA Empire into the tracker...not to mention the fact the stats I said before don't show any keyword/url, traffic source or any sub-id type of info anyway. All it shows is the clicks for each offer and the amount of leads and the amount earned.

Help!!!! Please!!!!

NOTE TO COACH: If you'd like your new PPV students to not contemplate suicide I suggest you create some of your step by step camtasia videos showing:

1. A video that shows how to add the aff link in the rotation for each of the big 7 or 8 networks...it'll only take 30 secs each but it would do wonders for us who are tech/code challenged.

2. Step by step on how to merge all the data...cost data (from traffic source like Media Traffic)...and the earning data (from aff network)...and how this whole symphony works.

I'm absolutely raring to put the gas on PPV...and thought that you would have covered the "post launch" part just as well as you did for the installation for the tracker etc (man I was delighted...I installed it without problems on the first go...trust me that shit never happens to me with installations).

I've started with a very small campaign, because I really need to get a proper grasp on the tracker...then I believe I'll be off to the races.

This tiny test campaign - I've had 270 impressions...spent a measly 2.70...and earned a measly 2.50...but I'm very encouraged by it....because I can completely see how to hopefully make it pretty big with PPV...and thanks so much for creating this site.

But as you know better than anyone...I can't do shit unless the data part works and makes sense. In this example...I can't seem to see what "keyword/url" actually made me the money.

I'm gagging for data...but can't seem to figure it out.

Please help.

Thanks,

Abhik

with Direct Track networks, like CPAE you need to click the download optional info button to see the tracking IDs.

I agree that some more information about the tracking system is in order... I aslo feel like only half of the product has been explained. I would hope for a little more detail for $200/ month.

Hey,

Sounds like you're a bit frustrated, yeah? Let me tell you, I've been there!

To be honest, Coaches tracker is a bit confusing. However, it's very powerful. Once you get past the learning curve, all should be ok. So again, just take your time with it.

Now, as far as sub-ids, links, etc. That's extremely easy. For CPAEmpire, the sub-id information is attached to the end of your link after the /. Unlike other networks, which require a sub-id syntax like &sid= or something. So, when you're confused about sub-ids, check out subids.com - there you can find out what sub-id syntax you need to add to the end of your links for each affiliate network.

Just enter your affiliate links into coaches tracker that way, with the sub-id syntax at the end. And again, for cpaempire, their's doesn't really have a sub-id syntax you need to add. But, if you want to get technical, their sub-id syntax would be considered the " / " at the end.

Now that you have that, you're pretty much "good to go". When you're ready to update the tracker, you need your info from the affiliate network to see what converted.

Some networks have you download the info to text or csv, and some just display it on their webpage and make you jot it down yourself! For CPAEmpire - they have "download optional info". Do I know where it is? Unfortunately, no. I don't really use them that much. I'm more of a CX guy

Anyways, you should easily be able to find out how to get the optional info. CPAE has a support section, there's a wonderful tool called Google.com that usually can find an answer to anything, etc.

Once you get that data, and you go to the "update" portion of your PPV-Tracker, you have an option in the dropdown box for "Revenue Data", which upon selecting, brings new options. This is for CSV documents I'm guessing, so it wants to know what column is for sub-ids, and what column is for conversions, etc. Select what you need to, or make changes to the csv file accordingly, and then upload and you should be good to go!

As far as coach making a camtasia studio video on how to update the tracker...

He has text instructions on the actual update page, this should help and if not, maybe someone else can make a camtasia studio video for coach to sticky or post? I don't have camtasia (yet) - I'm lazy lol

Anyways, just reply back if you're confused on anything. But, that should be more than enough to get the ball rolling for you on the update portion...

Thanks very much for your reply.

However, it doesn't help my confusion with the tracker. I did just use the contextual link ending with / on the link....

http://login.tracking101.com/sw/XXXXX/CDXXXXX/

it doesn't seem to provide any sub id info in the reports on CPA empire.

Secondly, after uploading the media traffic csv file, (generated exactly as coach's tracker instructions are)...although it says the report updated successfully...same with the revenue data...nothing actually shows up in the reports section after uploading.

I'm not sure why the coach isn't taking the time to create videos for the "post campaign launch" part of the game, especially considering that there are so many of us that are failing to get the tracker to work.

This is a great site, great info on a very cool strategy...and having heard his Clickbooth interview he did..his attitude and work approach comes across just great....but the seeming lack of support and walkthrough to make THE MOST important part of making this PPV work, which is the tracker....there's no help at all! This is very frustrating indeed.

There are many of us that are delighted to pay the 200 buckaroos a month to learn this great system...but we need to make profits to pay for it.

And the only way we'll make money is knowing for sure how to make the tracker work. I believe everyone here on the site are raring to put in the hard work...but are being completely stifled by drowning in the confusion of using the tracker.

Coach...we NEED help. Could you please respond!

Thanks,

Abhik

Hey Abhik,

That's odd... The CPAEmpire is correct, so it should be working correctly. What's your process in obtaining the optional info? Exactly, what do you do to get it? (Eg. login, click this, click that, etc)

As far as everyone being stumped on the tracker... I haven't seen anyone else have problems with it. Maybe I haven't read all the posts, though. It works fine for me, and seems pretty simple to set up (in my opinion).

I know it's REALLY frustrating. Trust me - I've been there. I was trying to get PB2000 set up and wow - I had to wait like 3 days! That was tough since I wanted to start dishing out polls ASAP. So yeah, it gets extremely frustrating.

Now, what are you doing when you get to the "reports" section at your PPV tracker site? When you click on the "Reports" link, you have a bunch of options. You actually don't need to update ANYTHING at all (in the update section) to see clicks, etc.

For example, when I click on "Reports". I have the first option box set to "Report On: Campaigns". Then, I have the "Date Range: All Time". I leave everything else as is ("No Adjustment"). Then, I click on "Get Report" on the bottom left.

Once I do that, it shows me all the clicks I've received from all of the different campaigns. If you change "Report On: Campaigns" to "Report On: Offers", then click on "Get Report" again - you can see what offers are getting clicks, etc. This is very simple, as you should be able to tell now.

Now, if you're not seeing any clicks, etc - then you have one or two problems.

1. Your links aren't set up correcty.
2. Your links aren't set up correctly (Or the tracker isn't installed correctly, which is probably not the case)

So, you need to re-check all your links.

First, go into your offers section at your ppv tracker. Check your links. Test them. Make sure the / is at the end of the Sub-ID report. If you look at subids.com - you can see that the CPAEmpire.com links are only supposed to have the " / " at the end. So, if that's what you got - you "should" be good. If that's the problem and it's not working - that's CPAEmpires problem and you'll need to talk to them about it. It could be an issue with them.

Now, you're going to want to check your destination url at the PPV networks (Zango, MediaTraffic, etc).

Here's what you should be starting off of:

http://www.tracker-domain.com/a.php?campaign={campaign}&keyword={keyword}&match_ type={match_type}&source={source}&z=z_number&b=b_n umber

Obviously, replace tracker-domain with your domain. If you're on Zango, or any other network besides adonnetwork or media traffic, you actually have to manually enter in all the info for campaign, keyword, match type and source.

And make sure at the end of the link, for the z and b, you are replacing the "z_number" and "b_number" portions with numbers. 0 for z if you aren't using a landing page, and for b, enter your rotation id. It should be 1 if you only have 1 rotation set up. But, you can always get the rotation ID in the PPV tracker.

Also note, that for the tracker-domain.com/a.php - that may not be the case for you. It's not for me. Mine looks more like: tracker-domain.com/PPV-Tracker/a.php...............

So, make sure you have the right link.

If all of those are correct, everything should be tracking correctly. You'll want to check with CPAEmpire if they aren't providing the optional info. It's most likely on their side where the problem lies.

As far as posting data from mediatraffic, etc - I'm still waiting on them to launch my campaign so I can't help you out there. If it's not showing data after you upload - recheck your steps again and MAKE SURE you're doing it right. Trust me - I've done things 100 times and then realizes "oops - I missed that". So, just recheck that.

And, stats from mediatraffic AND your affiliate network (CPAEmpire) may go hand in hand. So, you might need info from CPAEmpire before you can view the stats. Not sure/positive though.

Anyways - just be patient. Once I get my campaigns rolling I'll go ahead and make a camtasia video for you and everyone else on how to do it.

Coach probably hasn't seen this thread yet. If you absolutely need his help - PM him. He says in one of his vids something like "If I didn't catch your thread, PM me. If I miss your PM - email me". He's pretty good about getting back to you, but like everyone else, he's probably busy, too.

He has ppc-coach to deal with, lol.

Anyways, just give it a little bit more time and do what you can for now. That info should help you enough to get you started. Try promoting a similar or same offer on another network with a different aff. link to see if it's cpae's fault. And, check with THEIR support.

Hope that helps and good luck

Ryan

Yes, I didn't think that showing a video of me uploading to .csv was necessary? If it is, I'll do it, but it's pretty simple to do. Just get the revenue and cost data and upload them. No tricks, nothing fancy, just straightforward uploads.

I messed up when I did the video, both should work though as I wrote in a fix for that.

You download the optional info OR the subid report from cpa empire. You upload those to the tracker to update the revenue. I'll double check, but I think I should bring over a newer version here as you may be hitting some old bugs that have since been fixed in the ppc version. I'll do this this weekend.

A bit dramatic here...suicide?

You add the offer link under the offers link, then put a bunch of them together by creating a rotation. This site will help you subids.com

First, upload your revenue.

Second, upload your cost data.

Done.

If you need any clarification on the format or if you're not seeing any subids being passed through, then your offer link may not be setup correctly. The tracker just needs to append a unique value to the end of all your offer links, so you must enter the offer links appropriately to allow this.

The tracker can be overwhelming if you complicate it in your head. Don't do that. It's just a matter of uploading revenue and cost data and making sure all your links are setup correctly. If an a.php link is setup wrong, the tracker won't update because it won't have the right data to use.

Once I bring over the new ppc coach one, you'll see a noticeable difference in performance and ease of use. Bear with me please.

Thanks to you Ryan and coach too for replying. I really appreciate it. Although I have double checked all my links...I will check them once more. If I still have problems...I think I'll just create camtasia videos myself showing exactly what I've done...and all the details and steps I'm taking...so you you can actually "see" where and why there's a problem.

Thanks again, I'll come to you on this in a short while.

Abhik

P.S. Uumm..yep the suicide part was a joke...but there's nothing worse than wanting to dive in and put in the hard work and some tech stuff getting in the way

You're welcome, and yeah - I totallyyyyy agree with you on that last part! I'm sitting here biting my nails waiting for my PPV campaigns to be approved!
