Default Are Your Conversion Rates Good Enough...

I'm often asked what is a good conversion rate for PPV/CPV.

When you know the conversion rate for each target in your campaign, you can price your bids to achieve your target ROI. This number also tells you when a landing page is not working well or if it needs to be tweaked further.

After 1 1/2 years of doing this, here's what I have found...

For the CPV pops with going direct to the merchant lander, a good conversion rate is 1 conversion per 400 impressions.

I typically get 1 conversion per 350 to 800 impressions on good campaigns. If the conversion doesn't happen in 800 impressions or at a cost of 1/2 the commission of the offer, then I delete that target.

If I use my own landing page, on a good campaign I get a click through of 5% from my landing page to the merchant offer page. If the merchant page is good also, it will convert at about 5%. So again, this works out to 1 conversion per 400 impressions.

If your numbers are better than this, then you have a great campaign. If they have a lower return, then you need to make changes, delete targets, and test/tweak some more.

Of course there are exceptions. Some url targets will convert 1 in 10 impressions, those are gold. Some will convert 1 in 2000 inpressions and still be profitable.

I'd be interested to see what conversion rates others are experiencing in CPV.

Excellent post, my numbers are much like yours. I should sticky this as it's great barometer to see if you've got a winner or not.

I find that it really depends on the type of campaign. I have a lot of campaigns getting results like you state, but for my zip/email submit campaigns, I regularly get 1-3% conversions.

You mean 1-3 conversions of e-mail/zip submits per 100 views ?

Aaron and Coach, do you also find higher conversion rates for the zip/email submits?

Lately, I don't do much zip/email submits.

When I used to run them, I did find fairly high conversion rates. Sometimes when going direct to merchant landing page I'd get as much as 2.5% conversions -- when there was a very high correlation between the email submit offer/prize and the site that I was targetting.

I don't really run them either. Conversions would be pretty good, but if the traffic didn't convert after that for the merchant, i'd get scrubbed.
