Default Spy Tool For CPV

I saw Coach had posted something about a Spy Tool of some sort I think. I'm going to buy a laptop from Best Buy tomorrow for the sole purpose of loading it up with Adware. But I'm planning on coding a script to let it crawl the internet based on a keyword I give it.

The goal would be for it to crawl all the sites and tell me what popups come up from what networks and their frequency. And put all of that, URLs included for both the site and the popup into a report so I could see what others are doing.

My plan would be to run it for several days to see if I get the same results - which tells me that the ads are likely profitable.

Is this something you guys would be interested in having?

Definitely. More likely than not, I can test it as well.

Happy to test as well, I'm fairly technical and can help debug issues.

Good luck. I tried with about 7 programmers to get this done. You don't need another laptop, just install a virtual machine and install adware on that. The problem is you can get the url, but you can't see the pop up without mimicing a browser. Then you don't know what the actual offer is unless you view the pop up yourself.

If you can get it, that'd be cool, but it's a tough haul, short of hiring some monkey to do it.

Here's a little vb.net code I started but never finished if anyone wants to screw around with it.

Code:
Imports mshtml
Imports SHDocVw

Public Class Form1

    Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
        ListBox1.Items.Clear()
        ListBox1.Items.AddRange(IO.File.ReadAllLines("urls.txt"))
    End Sub

    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

        For i As Integer = 0 To ListBox1.Items.Count - 1

            Dim wbBrowser As New SHDocVw.InternetExplorer
            wbBrowser.Visible = True
            wbBrowser.Navigate(ListBox1.Items(i))

            While wbBrowser.Busy = True
                Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000)
            End While

            Threading.Thread.Sleep(8000)

            Dim objIE As SHDocVw.InternetExplorer
            Dim myDoc As mshtml.IHTMLDocument2
            Dim shellWindows As SHDocVw.ShellWindows = New SHDocVw.ShellWindows()
            Dim sw As IO.StreamWriter = IO.File.AppendText("log.txt")
            Dim filename As String
            Dim found As String
            For Each ie As SHDocVw.InternetExplorer In shellWindows
                filename = System.IO.Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(ie.FullName).ToLower()
                If filename = "iexplore" Then
                    objIE = ie
                    myDoc = objIE.Document
                    Debug.WriteLine(myDoc.url & vbTab & ListBox1.Items(i))
                    If myDoc.url.Contains(ListBox1.Items(i)) Then
                        found = "no"
                    Else
                        found = "maybe"
                    End If
                    sw.WriteLine(myDoc.url & vbTab & ListBox1.Items(i) & vbTab & found)
                End If
            Next
            sw.Close()
            Dim theProcesses() As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("iexplore")
            For Each currentProcess As Process In theProcesses
                Debug.WriteLine(currentProcess.ToString)
                Try
                    currentProcess.Kill()
                    Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000)
                    'MessageBox.Show("ie killed?")
                Catch
                    MessageBox.Show("error")
                End Try
            Next
        Next
    End Sub

    Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
        Dim theProcesses() As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("iexplore")
        For Each currentProcess As Process In theProcesses
            Debug.WriteLine(currentProcess.ToString)
            currentProcess.Kill()
        Next
    End Sub
End Class
