Scrubbing - Conversions Stopping after 1st Day

I've been using Traffic Vance for a few weeks now and I keep seeing the same pattern. Offers will convert the 1st day and then they just stop. I read Harry had the same problem when he promoted Acai. I've noticed pretty much the exact same thing with Acai. The explanation seems to be the merchant is scrubbing. I don't understand the ins and out of scrubbing but it seems odd I would be getting scrubbed after just a few leads especially with Acai since its a credit card submit.

Coach, since you own a network now could you provide some insight into scrubbing? Why would merchants scrub so quickly when the punter used their CC or did a Crush/Ringtone offer? I read Harry had his Crush or Ringtone offers scrubbed.

For these offers the merchant already got the CC/Pin submit. The only issue is if the punter could of canceled/refunded their subscription immediately. I always thought scrubbing takes awhile to set in since the merchant needs some time and more than a few leads to see how your traffic is doing for them. Kind of like how Coach talked about staying under the radar with zip/email submits. If your doing $100 a day on email submits your prob going get scrubbed but keep it $10 or under and you should be ok. Using this line of thinking getting 1 or 2 Acai converts on the 1st day should keep me under the radar.

Does anyone else have the same problem with TV? This problem has happened across multiple verticals not just Acai.

Another possibility is the network or merchant will discount Contextual traffic for whatever reason. So even though they allow it they automatically scrub it after detecting it. I haven't tested it yet but I wonder if using a search or banner affiliate link instead of the contextual/DSL ones would fix the problem. Anyone try this?

Sorry for the long post I just can't wrap my brain around what is going on. I've spent around $1K on TV and get excited ever time a campaign shows promise but they only do good on the 1st day.

First of all, don't use the wrong link. I'm pretty sure that can get you in trouble and put your earnings at risk.

Second, I've experienced something similar with all of my campaigns except for two of them. And both are running through Neverblue right now. On other Networks, I get a lead or two the first couple days and then nothing for weeks. This is true even when I'm using a rotation package to run the exact same offer over different networks.

I've had the most luck with Zango so far and don't use TV. I feel like I'm experiencing something similar on MT and AdOn, but of course I'm not tracking since the Tracker around here doesn't work...

I'm seeing the same thing. I wonder if that's just the way PPV campaigns go?

Yea, I figured they want us to use the correct link. Was just thinking that might be a way to reduce the scrubbing or whatever else is going on with leads only happening on the 1st day. But since most people cloak or blank their referrers I'm not sure how the networks would know what link or traffic we are using anyways. Although with contextual they might, I don't know how it registers on there end since there is no click to initiate it.

Coach, can networks tell we are sending contextual traffic if we cloak/blank referrers?

Its good to know that you and drhowe are seeing the same thing. This would make me think we are not getting scrubbed and its just the way PPV is.

Have you guys always tried changing the amount of time in between showing the same IP your ads? I've tried 24 hours and then a few days and a week and still see the same problem. So its not like the same users are seeing the ad everyday.

I haven't tried that but I have a campaign running that only gets about 100 impressions a day. I've continued to let it run and there seems to be a pattern where I wont get any leads for a while then a few days in a row where I'll get 2-3. What I'm wondering is if the number of people seeing these ads is limited to the number that has the adware installed, and once that group has seen our creatives a couple times and we got all the leads we can get out of them we have to wait until a batch of new users install the adware and we get a set of new customers. If that's the case, the only way I can think of countering that and trying to get steadier conversions would be to constantly ad new URL's and or keywords. Just a thought...what do you guys think?

I think that is possible for sites like ESPN.com or CNN.com where the same people keep coming back each day to read new info. But if its a site where people are looking for an answer or a service I doubt a person comes back after their 1st visit or 2.

Try changing the days between IP views and see if your daily impressions go down.

stick with your offers for at least a few days if you get some conversions. what may also be happening is you are getting your ads viewed by the same people, so make sure you set the view option to 1 per month or so.

drhowe 12-03-2008 07:23 PM

That's interesting Harry. I have all my campaigns set to show the ads as much as possible to the users. This is what Coach says to do in all of the campaign setup videos.

iseemtobeaverb 12-03-2008 10:28 PM

Yeah, I set mine up to show up as much as possible as well. How about everyone else?

Do you find that using once per month or so helps when using longer lists of URLs in a single campaign, since it is less likely that your budget will be eaten up by certain high traffic URLs that may get multiple views per person?

harry1970 12-03-2008 11:03 PM

I'm only saying what works for me, but you should try these things out and see what results you get.

Many urls I target have a login tab for members - once I have them signed up I don't want to keep popping them every time they go to log in.

So if I'm targetting a debt offer, its only good once. I don't want the user to keep resubmitting their details over and over to the network. Nor do I want them to keep seeing my ad.
