Default Category Targeting

Has anyone ever done a campaign with just category targeting? That is, instead of targeting a specific keyword or site, or you are only allowed to target a group of websites the cpv network has decided belongs in a particular theme.

I realize that this is not ideal, but does it have any value at all? I'm looking at some overseas networks and this is the only kind of ad-serving they have.

I've tried it on Media Traffic for dating, adult dating, cash loans, car loans, car insurance, car quotes, credit cards, and education mostly for the US but some for the UK and Australia. Unfortunately, all of them were a big waste of money. I think there is too much remnant traffic thrown in but it could have been the offers. I was direct linking.

Having said that, if you can get RON to work then you've probably got a better shot with category targeting.

If you do try it, let us know how you go.

RON on MT can work well. I've had success in the past with grants (with and without landers), and other sorts of re-bills.

Personally I've never been able to get RON to work.

I haven't really tried category targeting too much - I get way too much into building demographic lists for my campaigns sometimes. Some of my campaigns are limited by myself - because I get too narrow. So category targeting would be a step in the opposite direction and maybe not a bad idea lol.

Category & Ron work really well if you're ready to spend some serious $ testing. This is literally where you take everything and throw it up to see what sticks. However, if you're trigger happy, and kill the campaign too early, you'll miss out on some big gems. You have to babysit it -or have a killer tracker;-) and - kill the non converting ones after you get your budgeted # of views for that offer (which is all different based on the offer and the payout).

Since most catetory traffic is around .007 and Ron at about .004, you can do some real damage once you've figured out the offers that work...

CPVLab is indeed the right answer. Nothing even close to it out there right now.
