Well, it's not necessarily pathetic. In the OP he says he used 3 generic keywords. It is very hard to convert a generic keyword. Let's say one of them was "cars", you can only imagine how many different things people might be looking for or reading about that has nothing to do with auto insurance or whatever the offer is

If you can find a URL with that kind of traffic, then that is different. A URL attracts a certain audience and then you can tailor to them.
